Starting today, YouTube is rolling out a new Shorts program that will let creators earn money from their 15 second to 60 second videos.

The program, which was first announced back in September, is similar to TikTok's Creator Fund in that it will give creators a 45% revenue split from ads that run on their videos.

To be eligible for the program, creators must have a channel with at least 10,000 subscribers.

Videos that are part of the Shorts program will be marked with a "Shorts" icon in the bottom left corner of the video player.

The move is a direct response to TikTok's success in recent years.

While YouTube has long been the dominant video platform, TikTok has been eating into its market share, especially with younger users.

The Shorts program is just one of the many ways that YouTube is trying to compete with TikTok.

Earlier this year, YouTube launched a dedicated space for short-form videos called YouTube Shorts.

The company has also been testing a new Explore tab that includes a section for Shorts.
